Hello citizens of America and thank you for visiting my blog. Before I update on current government affairs, I would like to recap on what happened on my first few days in office. I believe this will greatly help a better understanding of future matters.
First of all, only a few days after my inauguration on March 4th 1933, I called an emergency session of congress.During this session I proposed the Emergency Banking Act and it was quickly passed. Then only a day later, after asking congress to create an economy policy bill, the economy act was sent to congress.Banks began to open only a day later.
On March 20th, the economy act went into effect, cutting veteran's benefits from $900 million to $450 million. Only a day later, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) bill was sent to congress with the purpose of creating more jobs.During this time, two other bills were sent to congress. These were the Beer-Wine bill(to overturn prohibition and help stimulate production) and the Farm Mortgage Relief Act (to reduce overproduction of farm products and save production money). On March 31st, the CCC bill was passed, and although intended to create 250,000 jobs, it has continued to be far more productive.
At the start of April, both the Farm Relief Act and Beer-Wine bill were passed into law. Both carried out their purpose and in doing so satisfied most of the public. Although things seemed to be making progress, by April 18th the dollar was beginning to sink compared to gold. I therefore decided to lift the US dollar of the gold standard. This would allow the government to print more money and stabilize the national economy.
Many of my most important movements in my early days occurred June 16th. This included the passing of the Banking Act of 1933, which protected bank deposits up to $5,000 ,made commercial and investment banking separate, and banned the use of bank deposits in speculation. Another was the Emergency Railroad transportation Act which attempted to fix inefficiencies between the railroad network. The most important though was probably the National Industrial Recovery Act, which allows me to regulate industry and help re-stimulate the economy.
The rest though is to be the future. I believe these actions will greatly stimulate our economy even more over time. Soon enough, our nation will be back to its prosperous heights.
